Our chess team won 2nd place in the northern NM Chess League and 3rd place at the 2026 New Mexico K-12 Scholastic State Championship!

The 2025-2026 season of the Northern Schools Chess League featured 20+ elementary school teams, as well as many middle and high school teams from northern New Mexico. At the individual Scholastic State Championship, one of our students achieved the best result among players from Los Alamos and tied for 3rd place in the K–3 division out of 26 competitors. If your kids are interested in chess, join our camps!

International MATH KANGAROO competition comes to Los Alamos!

On March 19, 2026, over 60,000 students participated in Math Kangaroo competitions in the USA and over 6 million worldwide! Atomic Learners Academy was an official center for the Math Kangaroo USA test in Los Alamos. Nearly half of our students scored in the top 3 at the state level, and 2 students scored in the top 20 nationally! Check out detailed report in the press coverage article. As a reminder, our regular Wed activity in the after school day camp is centered around preparation for the test.

Growth meets fun

Our camp offers an energizing mix of physical movement and creative exploration, blending a variety of exciting experiences such as judo, hip-hop, neurogymnastics, chess play sessions, math-themed games, and science-based crafts.

Every activity is guided by experienced facilitators including a dance instructor with 15 years of experience in different dance styles, a judo black belt instructor with experience teaching kids classes, a M.Sc. in clinical psychology with an early childhood education certificate from UNM, and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, who bring energy and care to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and inspiring environment.

After School Camp

Thank you for your interest in our After-School Camp! At this time, our program is full, but we have started a waitlist for families who are interested in enrolling should a spot becomes available. If you would like to add your child to the waitlist, please contact us!

Schedule: 

3:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. (Monday-Thursday); 

2:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. (Fridays);

Duration: Full semester or school year

Grades: K—6

Add-ons & options:
1-4 days/week attendance or drop-ins: please inquire using the form below.
Shortened camp (e.g., 3:05 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.) or enrolling siblings: please reach out to discuss available options and reduced rates.

Transportation

Getting to our program is easy. Students can take the free express buses that depart from all local elementary schools at dismissal (approximately 2:40 PM on Mon-Thu and 1:40 PM on Fri) and arrive directly at the Bradbury Museum bus stop.

The bus stop is located just 50 feet from our entrance, with no road crossing required, making arrival safe and convenient.

Our suite is located in the Bradbury Science Museum office building, on the second floor (entrance on the eastern side of the building where physical therapy is located).
